A headline counts as one “story” on its first appearance in any source in one week. A headline counts for one “outlet” the first time it appears at a given source in one week. A headline counts for one “article” every time it appears whatsoever, regardless of previous appearances globally or for a given source. A share is of the same measure over every headline GDELT collected that month, or over the sources'. GDELT's set of sources is not constant (between 40 and 53 million articles a year since 2020, from a changing mix of sites), so a share across years is against a moving base; a term's share of one source's headlines is against that source's own output.
